About Marwa Sarah

I am an artist dedicated to exploring the profound narratives hidden within the everyday. My primary medium is acrylic, which I employ to bring a vibrant, yet deeply contemplative, energy to my subjects.

My work centers around the still life, but my focus is far removed from simple representation. I am driven by the idea that common objects can act as powerful vessels for entirely different philosophical meanings—concepts that transcend the objects themselves.

I am particularly drawn to and obsessed with chairs and hanging cloth. These forms, seemingly mundane, become a language for larger philosophical themes. The hanging cloth, in particular, holds a deeply personal and cultural significance; its presence in my work is rooted in the experience of fleeing the war in Syria, where the drapery and folds of fabric are a potent and emotional factor of the culture.

Each painting is an invitation to look past the object and into the underlying concept it represents, using form, color, and texture to articulate themes of absence, structure, memory, and profound displacement.
